March is Women’s History Month. It’s also the anniversary of the fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory in 1911 that killed almost 200 people, mostly young women, and girls. It inspired a massive strike for better working conditions.
On March 27th, 2021, protesters gathered around the very same place, which is NYU’s Brown building on campus. They rallied against a laundry chain that fired their immigrant, women workers because they had tried to start a union.
