VIDEO DEEP DIVE: How newly arrived Chinese seniors adapt in New York City

October 17, 2023 by David Cheung

Leaving home is never easy. Since the late 19th century, Chinese people have immigrated to the United States in search of a better life and have found ways to integrate into the local community while preserving their culture and heritage. Organizations like the CPC (Chinese-American Planning Council) have been working to enhance the Chinese-American immigrant experience, especially for senior citizens who face challenges related to language barriers, trust in strangers, and access to healthcare. The organization not only regularly hosts cultural activities and events like Tai Chi but also strives to create an environment that fosters lasting bonds and friendships between immigrants and members of the local community.
