Harmony Bloodsoe, a 20 year old student from New York University, decided to get grillz, gold teeth. Grillz are staples of urban adornment. They began to be worn by hip hop artists in the early 1980s, and upgraded during the 90s in Oakland, but they became more widely popular during the mid-2000s due to the rise of Southern hip hop rap and the more mainstream pop culture status hip hop attained. I followed her process in getting grillz, from conducting research to actually wearing grillz for the first time. The images capture her reaction of getting fitted for grillz and then actually wearing/owning the mouth jewelry. The grillz certainly transformed Harmony into a more bold individual as she loved showing of her new mouthpiece.
