New Yorkers push back on East Side Coastal Resiliency Project

The East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) Project was designed to prevent climate change-related flooding in Manhattan’s East Village. But the project is heavily contested by New Yorkers who say it will destroy a local park beyond repair–and cause additional climate issues in the process. Burying the Park: The Fight to Save the East River Park

One of the most environmentally progressive cities in the world decides to bury the popular East River Park as part of a development plan. Long-time residents have rallied to petition their local council members to vote against the project. The park is a beloved green space for lower-income and elderly residents of Lower Manhattan.
